The proper way to read Braille according, https://www.perkins.org/how-the-braille-alphabet-works/, is by moving your two pointer fingers across the page from left to right. braille is a six dotted cell (two columns and three rows.) The Muffin tin activity is to learn braille. The point of this activity is show braille for kids in a fun sensory activity. You can recreate braille letters and upload to this page to be uploaded!
This is the first part of the install after the contact paper was laid down. I spent an hour or so actually making the glasses then about an hour installing to preferred area. As seen there is a UV light to promote sanitation so Mrs. Mandi has less work when cleaning. I made a simulation pair to show Amblyopia, Glaucoma, and Macular Degeneration.
Today marks 110 years of Girl Scouts. I have been in Girl Scouts for 11 years in August. I joined in August of 2011.
Happy birthday Girl Scouts!! Did you know that February is Age Related Macular Degeneration and low vision awareness month? What is Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) you may ask... ARMD is a disorder that occurs in the Macula. The macula is where your central and color vision come from in your retina. This disorder causes degenerative lipids to deposit under the retina. As it progresses it causes blood vessels to leak into the retina and cause irreversible vision loss. I am high risk for this eye disease, so it's very important to take the steps to prevent as long as we can. Some of these provisions include: not smoking, taking proper vitamins, etc. Information provided by the Everhart Eye Association. Did you know that January is Glaucoma awareness month? Glaucoma is a group of several different eye diseases that lead to blindness. It is important to protect your eyes from the sun since rays can harm your retinas and cause vision loss. Glaucoma is found through the dilation the eyes. I get my eyes checked every year since I am high risk for the progression of it. That’s one of the reasons I have transitional glasses lenses!
Blindness Facts: More than 4.2 Million Americans over the age of forty are legally blind. The leading cause of blindness in America are age related eye issues such as cataracts, Macular Degeneration, and Diabetic Retinopathy. There are also refractive issues with the eye that can cause far-sightedness and near sightedness. learn more at: https://www.cdc.gov/visionhealth/basics/ced/index.html Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. AuthorMy name is Rebekkah Baccus. I am an active Girl Scout member. I have earned my silver and bronze award. This website is dedicated to my Gold award. My Gold Award is meant to spread awareness about vision loss to family and friends of the visually impaired. I suffered from blindness from birth until now. My vision will never get "better" and I am okay with that. along with blindness I also suffered from bulling and loneliness from my vision. I have been dealing with these issues for my whole life. It hurts to know I am alone, since I have no one like me that I can share struggles with or even understand my struggles. I hope you enjoy my project and this website! Archives
