About
The Childhood Blindness Gold Award Project started off as a subject I enjoyed learning about. I was born visually impaired but never knew what that meant. I just knew that I struggled with hand eye coordination, my glasses lenses were thicker than others, I was put in the front of the class so I could read the screen easier, etc. As I became more aware of my eyes and the severity of my vision I decided to learn more about my eyes. I would read articles and take notes. I talked to my ophthalmologist to learn more about my eyes as a whole and began to watch blind influencers on social media. I watched a lot of Molly Burke and related to her in many ways. I learned to overcome blindness and not let it define me as a person. That's when I decided that I wanted to become an advocate of the blind and visually impaired. I started talking to several organizations (The American Association of the Blind, and Savannah Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.) I used this passion to create my Gold Award Project.
